Best Man Speech
Induction and Deepener of choice
Allow yourself to drift deeper and deeper…drifting and drowsy…drifting down and down. Down…into total relaxation…drifting deeper…and deeper down.
You feel safe and relaxed, very comfortable, drifting deeper and deeper relaxed. Because you are so very relaxed you can be aware of the smallest movement of your body…both inside and outside…and you are very conscious of the steady rhythm of each breath…breathing gently and slowly. Very soon now you are going to be the best man at your friends wedding and you are going to give a speech…which you may find to be a daunting task. So to alleviate any anxieties you may have we are going to learn a few tricks to help you present the perfect best mans speech. The key to a good speech is research and your subconscious mind will now be aware that you need information. You know you need some witty anecdotes to use and you can find these by perhaps reading magazine articles or using the internet. You already know a lot about the groom and probably a fair bit about the bride and her family…You will be amazed at how much you really do know once you let your subconscious mind remind you of all the incidents you have witnessed in the past. Whenever you have a few moments to spare I want you to just close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let these past events come flooding back to your conscious memory. It would also be a good idea to note down these events for future reference in preparing your speech. Once you have enough stories to keep the guests amused for about 10 minutes it will be time to sort them out in the order you want to tell them, with each event leading neatly onto the next one…So, sort them mentally and then write them down. Next, you need to practise your speech to ensure it flows evenly and amusing along. Practise…practise…practise…until you don’t really need your notes anymore. If you are unhappy with anything then try changing the order or replace the story with another one…after all, you will have an unlimited supply available to you.
Pause…Now you are happy with your delivery and have memorised everything you want to say I want you to project yourself into the future…to the actual wedding day. See yourself as an outsider watching the events from a perfect vantage point where you can see and hear everything that is going on. See yourself and the groom arrive at the church, watch as the wedding service is performed and you produce the rings when asked to. Now move onto the reception and see yourself and the bride and groom greeting the guests as they arrive. It is time for the meal and everyone is seated, relaxed and jovial…eating and drinking the food and drink provided. Look around and feel the warmth and happiness generated by the crowd as they finally finish eating. Now it’s time for the toasts and the groom to speak. He gives his speech and hands over to you…his best man. You are relaxed and confident as you stand up and take command of events. You start by thanking the groom and then offer a toast to the parents. Now it is time for speech, the one you have rehearsed until you know it backwards. You start gently…knowing that your speech will have the guests falling about with laughter. Your timing and delivery are perfect, pausing in all the right places for maximum effect. You feel totally confident and relaxed as you smoothly make fun of the groom and the things he once did. At the end of your speech, as the laughter dies down you reach for the cards that have been selected to be read out…maybe there’s a witty story about a guest you can throw in. Finally you thank everyone and take your seat knowing that you performed brilliantly and helped to make your friends special day a very memorable one for everyone involved. Pause…Now I want you to come back to the present time bringing with you those feeling of happiness and success. And any time from now until the wedding you can always close your eyes, take a deep breath and visualise what is to come and your perfect way of presenting it. Pause…
