The mind

There are two different parts of the mind, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious and unconscious minds work in different ways – they process information in different ways .The conscious mind is the part of your mind that is responsible for logic and reasoning. It also controls our actions and is both analytical and critical. Or more aptly put by Hartland (1971) “the part of the mind that thinks, feels, and acts in the present. The conscious mind doesn’t even scratch the surface; it amounts to about ten per cent of what our mind does. The other ninety per cent of the work is done by the subconscious mind. It is ‘non-analytical’ and literal. It contains all the skills we have learned as well as our habits, attitudes and beliefs, perceptions and all our memories. The subconscious mind controls our involuntary bodily functions, like breathing, heart rate and temperature control. It works by making connections between thoughts and ideas, and is involved with emotions and feelings. Our subconscious has been likened to a hard drive of a computer. Like a hard drive our subconscious needs reprogramming every now and then. The hypnotic trance state is actually a naturally occurring state of mind in which the conscious mind is slightly less dominant than normal and the sub conscious mind is slightly more dominant than normal
