A meta-program is a general behaviour pattern that we all have. An example of a meta-program is called the ‘Direction Filter’. This has two principle elements which are: Towards and Away. Some people do things in life because they consider that by doing it that they are moving ‘Towards’ pleasure I.e going to work for career progression, buying bigger house, car, holiday. Other people do exactly the same thing, however they are doing it because they consider that they’re moving ‘Away’ from pain. I.E going to work to pay lousy bills, Neither is better, and both are useful. They get the same outcome for very different reasons – one is moving towards what they want, the other away from what they don’t want.
